Our learning resource centers are equipped with computers and internet services to help school kids do research or school assignments. II DRUG PREVENTION Up Down
The Housing Authority of the City of Mission is a firm believer in the prevention of mood altering chemicals. We firmly believe that communication, supervision and a busy mind will help a child keep away from the use and abuse of alcohol and drugs. The Housing Authority of the City of Mission offers many alternatives to help prevent a child from the use and abuse of alcohol and drugs. Parent involvement, positive after school activities, educational tutoring, positive role models and a good clean learning environment are ways in which the use and abuse of mood altering chemicals may be deterred from our youth.

III COMPUTERS Up Down
The Housing Authority of the City of Mission has several computers at both of our sites strictly for educational purposes. The Mission Housing Authority has invested a lot of time and money to upgrade and upkeep these computers and the educational programs they contain. Easy access and computer tutors are available at all times to help teach and guide their use. Internet access is available on certain computers for research purposes. Internet access is monitored by Mission Housing Authority staff so that sites that are not in the best interest for the user will be accessed.

IV PRESENTATIONS Up Down
Education is multi-dimensional. Our staff, though exposed in a variety of educational fields and experience, is still in need of other expertise in many other avenues and challenges in life. It is for this reason that the Housing Authority of the City of Mission asks professionals and experts in their respective areas of expertise to come and talk to our youth to lead them, guide them and educate them on a variety of topics. Such topics include the prevention and intervention of the use and abuse of mood altering chemicals, communication, attitude, and consequences to disruptive and negative behavior.

V MUSIC Up Down
The Housing Authority of the City of Mission Drug Elimination Program has an excellent Music Department to help prevent and deter our youth from the use and abuse of mood altering chemicals. The Housing Authority of the City of Mission is a proud sponsor of our children’s musical interests and talents. The Mission Housing Authority firmly believe’s that not all children enjoy sports or are athletically inclined. We also believe that not all children enjoy computers or are computer literate. It is for this obvious reason in which we offer this part of the drug elimination program. The Housing Authority of the City of Mission is proud to offer a variety of alternatives for our youth; music being one of those of many alternatives. The Housing Authority of the City of Mission has been known to help our young participants strive at attaining their musical goals. Our primary responsibility is to help the musically inclined attain their maximum potential. The Mission Housing Authority has voluntary musical instructrs whom are very good musicians that lead and guide our youth through their early musical endeavors. These volunteers are crucial instruments in guiding the musical talents and strengths of our youth.

VI SCHOLARSHIPS Up Down
The Housing Authority of the City of Mission has for the past ten (10) years offered graduating seniors from our local high schools, whom are housing participants in our public and or leased housing, scholarships so that they can further their educational aspirations. The Housing Authority of the City of Mission takes great honor in awarding this scholarship money to our local graduating seniors on behalf of and in memory of one of our past board members; Arnulfo "Tatan" Rodriguez. The Housing Authority of the City of Mission awards graduating seniors up to $ 1,000.00 worth of scholarship money. We are hopeful that with this financial assistance, our public or leased housing participants can strive at accomplishing their educational goals. VII CERAMICS Up Down
Aside from the traditional, conventional and usual drug prevention programs; the Housing Authority of the City of Mission has had a unique and special way to help our youth avoid the use and abuse of alcohol and drugs. We are exceptionally grateful to have our ceramic program available to all those interested in the art of ceramics. Our ceramic instructor has been volunteering in our ceramic program for the past twenty four (24) years. This individual herself is a program participant, a great instructor and teacher in the art of ceramics. We encourage any and all individuals to get involved in the ceramics class because it teaches and helps reinforce patience, perseverance, teamwork, and a positive attitude.

VIII ARTS AND CRAFTS Up Down
The Drug Elimination Arts and Crafts Program is the most basic program the Mission Housing Authority offers on basic educational learning. This program is intended for all of the youth whom participate in our after school program. This program is primarily intended for the younger of our participants because it is a more basic program on learning. This program teaches the basics on arithmetic, writing and fundamental learning. Supplies used for these activities include but are not limited to glitter, clay, pop-cycle sticks, pipe cleaners, glue and crayons. It is in the outmost importance for the Mission Housing Authority and of this program to make learning fun.

IX SPORTS Up Down
The Mission Housing Authority has a very good sports program for those children interested in participating in sports. The Mission Housing Authority offers a variety of sports so that our youth can take part in. Volleyball, basketball, softball, soccer and flag football are a few of the sports the Mission Housing Authority competes in. The Housing Authority of the City of Mission competes against other housing authorities with a similar type of program and in city leagues throughout the valley. The average age of participant in this program is 13 years. We sincerely feel that through sports our youth can gain knowledge and experience in areas that can and will benefit them the rest of their lives. Success, failure, perseverance, character, goal setting, optimism and the benefits of a positive attitude are just some of the attributes gained through our sports program.
